    The RFA offers several Technical Events throughout the year, including quarterly Technical Web Conferences, an annual Technical Seminar/Symposium, and Technical Sessions at the annual RFA Conference. Scroll down or click the links at right for more information on the RFA's technical events.

RFA Technical Seminars/Symposiums are intimate training sessions that are offered annually in early fall in areas across the US. They provide timely training and updates on important food safety and regulatory issues. This year, the RFA held its 2009 RFA Symposium on September 15-16, 2009, at Michigan State University. It included both Industry Development sessions and Technical/Food Safety sessions interwoven together over the two days. Click for full recap of the successful event!

February 2010 RFA Technical Web Conference:
Supplier Approval for Food Safety

Overview:
Gain information and insight into recognized supply chain management practices, consumer fraud deterrence and detection and proposed food safety modernization legislation in the RFA’s February Web Conference featuring Dr. Craig Henry of Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA). In this valuable session, Dr. Henry will discuss currently available tools that could be useful to establish or enhance food safety systems employed by industry stakeholders. He will also provide a current review of consumer fraud deterrence and detection developed from a wide industry survey and analysis conducted by the Grocery Manufacturers Association Science and Education Foundation and A.T. Kearney in 2009. Finally, he will highlight some of the key challenges facing the food industry stemming from proposed food safety modernization legislation proposed by Congress.

Presenter:
Craig W. Henry Ph.D., Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA)
     Craig Henry, Ph.D. serves as the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Scientific and Regulatory Affairs for GMA. He is responsible for defining strategy and providing senior leadership, staff management, program direction, and financial management to the scientific and regulatory activities of the Association. This includes oversight of Science Operations and Science and Policy Departments and is the President of the GMA Science and Education Foundation. Dr. Henry has published numerous articles in scientific journals. Dr. Henry serves on the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection and serves on the GFSI Technical Committee. He is a member of the International Association for Food Protection, Institute of Food Technologists, the American Association of Avian Pathologists and the U.S. Poultry Science Association, where he has served as a member of the Committee on Drugs and Chemicals since 1994, including a term as Chairman. Dr. Henry earned his Ph.D. in Animal Science from Auburn University. He holds a M.S. in Poultry Science from Clemson University, and a B.Sc. in Agriculture from the University of Delaware.

How does the web conference work?
It's easy and convenient! A virtual seminar is one that you can "attend" and participate in right from your offices. The savings are significant - no travel time or hassle and no travel expense.

The RFA Web Conference will include live audio along with a slide presentation on the Web. You just need a phone connection for the audio and an Internet connection. In addition, the web conference will allow you to comment and ask questions at specified times during the event using your phone.

You can invite staff members to listen and participate too - all for one connection fee! To get the most out of a web conference, it is recommended that you have no more than five people at any one computer connection. If you have multiple locations, please register each location as a separate connection.

Registration Information:
The cost for this event is as follows:

  • RFA Members: $199 per computer/audio connection
  • Non-Members: $299 per computer/audio connection

Forms should be received no later than February 5, 2010.

Once you have registered for the meeting, you will receive an email message inviting you to attend the web conference with instructions on how to attend. This message will provide the information that you need to join the meeting.
